Besides the often-recommended fresh chicken liver, anyone had good luck with other baits for channel/flatnose cats? I will be on the Snake River. Thanks!
As kids one of the better baits we used were the cheapest rubbery hot dogs you could buy for a quarter or two. Break off a chunk, spit on it and we were into fish. Don't know what was in them that would attract the fish and pretty sure I didn't want too. Mainly used them on the yellows in the local sloughs, but my dad took me up on the snake when I was around 13 or so and the cheap ass hot dogs worked well on the channel cats.
All my catfishin experience was in my younger days years ago down South in N.C., GA., MISS. & Texas. We used all you described plus big night crawlers, cheese balls and bacon fat trimmings. It all works, just gotta find em in the river & fish on the bottom. Good luck & remember that the best eatin catfish are the little ones (8-16"s)...
Thanks guys! I'll be fishing the Boise in Caldwell and Nyssa bridge once things warm up alittle. As a bonus, the small cats are easier to fit in the cooler too.
