We are running them with the boat. It's the only way to control depth and have a reasonable shot at a 100% tangle free, bait not flying off presentation. Funny thing is it's the only time of the year I fish like this.....summer run steelhead we generally cast for on shallower beaches and I troll/hogline for fall fish. I have never been able to push the numbers on a consistent basis for springers out of a boat as we seem to be able to do off the bank. We will score more often then not this time off the year off the bank. Of course space is limited and I'm up early today just to have a shot at a decent spot.....will post back tonight.
Go get em Ed, try a 5-6' leader if yer trolling CPH. Where are you launching? I'm gonna be putting in at Kalama Monday in a friend's new boat.
Great morning bite as we went 3 for 4......we almost tagged out, but we snapped a 40' leader on what appeared to be a hog. Here was the carnage from today.
Top fish went over 20....others were in the low to mid teens. Same colors and bait as previous days. After about 10am or so it was super dead.....we ground till around 4pm and never could pick up that last fish.
Well the big c kept up its record of keeping me away from anything resembling a fish. I saw 3 fish netted and 3 seals. but it was good to be on the water. I am starting to think I will only use the Columbia for sturgeon and stick to th lakes for my salmon.
I too am having the same luck on the Big C, will see if the weekend crowd caught em all tomorrow..... I went to Merwin Thursday for some Kokanee action but didn't find any, lot of debris on the water & the fish are scattered....
I'm too burned out to post pics, but we went 2 for 4 today. It took all day. Water has dropped and is very clear. Pretty good push this morning and then the fish were scattered throughout the day. Hookup ratio dropped for us. Many just tapped it and ran away.....at it again tomorrow for another beating. Will report.
